We've changed some things, and Box Stock is a bit of a misnomer. The only Box Stock car we have now is our Porsche class, which yes, is Box Stock with the only allowable changes of adding bearing, t plate, gears, and weights. There are spec tires and wheels for this class as well. It must stay with the 80t motor. After the Porsche box stock class, we move to the HFAY spec class, which allows for pretty much any mod you want, but only allowing up to 70t brushed or 3500kv brushless motors. Again, any gearing is ok as the motor is what is the max spec. No gyros are used or needed. We've done some playing around with them but haven't found a benefit.

no worries, glad for the questions. you will be amazed at what the stock mini z will do. You for sure don't want to mod up things if you have the mini 96, the cars are way fast for that tight of track. We will be racing next monday, doing HFAY and practice laps. We've got demo cars you should come out even if you don't have yours yet. Message me on my personal page if you are interested and i will get you the info.
May 26, 2020, 2:43 PM
PDX Mini Z Racing Club replied to Hai Phan's comment.
HFAY has it's own rules, which we incorporate into the club. When you get either of the cars Richard suggested, it will have an 80turn brushed motor. You will do great with this to start with. Then we can coach you on what else to get to upgrade that car so it stays within HFAY spec. Cars outside of HFAY spec are considered open in our club. We won't have a big track for a month or two possibly because our normal space is not available. Open class cars are usually faster, but you really won't be able to utilize it very much on the smaller track. Start with the car, then review the additional items down at #6 here: http://www.pdxminiz.com/mini-z-guide.php I've got Blaine working on getting the link updated for the car models.

We should be there again this next Monday, Oct 7th, i need to confirm with the church. The layout was great, but a bit big to put together. The lighting actually worked out ok. we had extra lights to use, but between when we started it was daylight with the sun coming in, by the time it was dark we didn't realize it and were still racing. We thought later.... oh, we don't even need the lights. So that was nice. Yup, stood on the stage. It was nice to be a bit higher. Look forward to seeing you next week.

With each tile being 50 cm, or just over 19", you will need space at least 14ft x 14ft for some of these smaller tracks. We rent a space that is 25 x 50ft, which provides us a lot of options.

Hi Warren, I don't think any of us have the evo. We had the MR03VE, which i believe is actually the same with some upgrades. If so, then we used the Mosler body. Great fit and very durable. I hear the group in canada uses the Mosler body on their rental fleet for durability. The wires may have to be cut shorter and re soldered. I had an issue with that on one of my motors once.

Oct 24, 2018, 8:52 AM
PDX Mini Z Racing Club commented on Mark Cacavella's post.
Hey Mark, Really depends on what type of racing. We run short tracks during our HFAY racing (www.howfastareyou.com) and then some tracks double the size. The longer 102LM is a tad wider which makes it more stable and allows for faster cornering with speed, while the 98mm is narrower and shorter making it more limber in tight S type corners. We have a mixture of both in our club. When we started, we didn't know the difference and we bought what type or color of body we wanted and ended up with a mix of 98 and 102 sized cars. The guys have seen the 102 have an advantage sometimes for stability. But the real thing is to find out what is driven at a club near you and go that direction. Some clubs separate the 2 sizes. Some clubs don't even have the 102's. You can check out our website for very introductory info to help as well. What all our guys needed when they started racing. www.pdxminiz.com Cheers.

This is one of the new RS "ready set" versions that just came out. We don't have any experience with this model and new radio yet. And although the older versions were ready set, they didn't have the RS in the name. They were called MR03S or MR03S2. But the car looks the same as either of those models with an MM motor placement. See our website. You either want the MM or LM. Don't get an RM or HM. Scroll down on this page to see the difference. http://www.pdxminiz.com/mini-z-guide.php

Yes, We use ILaps, and also Next Level Timing that a programmer in our club is developing. He's got lots planned for it, so give it a try, but know it's not done. He wants input, but is gradually rolling out things. Our ILAPS transponders and timing system here: http://www.pdxminiz.com/mini-z-guide.php

Oh, when you see the signs at the street, for Greater Portland Bible Church, you will go down the hill, through 2 stop signs, still straight, to the gate of the church, then after a quick left after the gate, there is a long right hand corner and you'll see cars on the right parked by the entrance. Conversation, not rumors. :) We are always open to ideas and as it's a club we run them past everyone to find the best fit n feel to make the best decision for the club. The location we have presently is one we just landed a couple months before the underground arrived. So to keep from bouncing locations and disrupting the flow and growth, we are slow to make another big switch.
There are positives and negatives for both locations presently. But we do want to try the underground sometime... maybe soon. Stay tuned. :)
