Great night of racing last night. Not as fast of a track as the prior one for sure, but still tons of close racing with most of us hitting the 4.9 to 5.1 second laps. And during the races as well, many were near the same lap most of the way through the races, which made it great fun to watch. Big shout out to Richard who snagged 2 twos. He likes his 5th place, but i know he's got what it takes and last night he was on point, ending just one lap back from first on one race and 3 another. Joseph and Greg would split the 3 position. Congrats to both of you on this, you have really come a long ways. Joseph, Greg, Ken S, and Bao would bounce around the top 3rd thru 6th positions between the races. It was great to see Jeff and Ken F really getting smooth and there driving ability is showing by increasing laps. Maxwell will be back in the mix of the middle upper group soon... the night had it's share of technical difficulties that will get worked out. 8 races down, 2 to go. There is a heated battle for 2nd place among 3 or 4 guys. Fun times. Also be sure to switch over to our new Groups page under the same name. We will be focusing our efforts on that page more in the future. It will be a little while as we pull over our history. https://www.facebook.com/groups/pdxminiz See ya soon, Ty

‎Hai Phan‎ to PDX Mini Z Racing Club

Any one in PDX that can help? I recently picked up a used evo with a pn motor. Notice that the motor wire are swapped and there's a delay for the reverse. I believe that an ICS cable can help reset this so I can re-wire it fix the delay. Let me know. Thanks!

WOW, what a crazy night of racing. Finished up Septembers HFAY races, and the guys are coming out with engines firing. Bau would hit a couple records tonight, first in the club to hit 51 laps in the 4 minute qualifiers and then his personal best 105 laps in 8 minutes. Bau kept Ty honest all night and it was great to race him as we finished within just a couple laps in many of the races. Way to go Bau. Ty had a new club and personal best 107. And we had Richard on 100 lap pace for much of our race, that was awesome. He still finished with his personal best of 95. Greg jumped into the A main in the 2nd race and had one of his best runs with an 89. Joseph is a newcomer and finished 4th in both races, and he won both B Mains. Although it looked bleak at times, he stayed consistent and fought back, passing Richard on the last lap to take the position away of race 2. Jeff is steadily getting better as well. Great driving. And other newcomers Maxwell and Ken F. it's great to see your cars getting dialed and your driving lines getting refined. You are getting better all the time. Awesome series so far. Great times. Ty

We started Fall HFAY series off last night and had a great night. Greg and Bau would swap 2nd and 5th in the two races, Richard 3rd both, and Ken 4th, Jeff Y 6th. These guys have really improved over the past couple months. Bau had tech issues in race 1, so probably would have been higher up on the list. Greg is in the mix of the Kentender, Richard, and Bau and finished just one lap off 4th position the second race. Second through 5th were 1 or 2 laps appart, very close grouping for those 4 drivers. Great to have Jeff Y out and watch him improving a ton recently as well. The big shout out is to this young driver Bau. Check out his video. Listen to the consistency. He reached 86 before a lap was out of consistent range. Way to go Bau.

Wow, what a night. New Club and Personal records, and just all out fun as well. Yes, finally, the Century beast has finally been taken down and kicked to the curb. And not only once, but twice this evening. Eight minutes of intense racing, crazy. With Bau and Greg improving tons the past few weeks, we started off nearly the same lap well into the second minute mark. The first race, we saw Ty eclipse the Century mark with time to spare. Greg and Bau battled for second finishing their personal bests as well. This was incredible to hit over 100 laps finally. The first achievement in PDX Mini z club history for the HFAY race season. Now could Ty prove it and do it the opposite direction.

Ty, Bau, and Greg again started and raced even more of the start minutes on the same laps. Bau again even led a lap or two. It takes getting in the groove, and all three of us were dialed in, at times mid race, no wrecks and just pacing each other nearly the same lap time. Ty would hit 100 again with time to spare. Bau was super consistent and came up just shy, and Greg, a few laps back from Bau, but also another personal best. Wow it was cool, not just to hit a 100+ myself, but to have these guys be doing so well also, i gotta give them credit for the assist for their improvement and overall great driving. Just awesome.

After HFAY, we all had cars with lights, so we shut of the lights in the area and ran our cars in the dark. That was so fun. We had 5 cars on the track, and some cars lights go off when there is no throttle, so of course we heard some clicking and crashing of cars hitting each other, but we did this for nearly and hour and were laughing like little kids. It was so great to be out and racing with buds again.

We also are starting a youtube channel... pdx mini z of course. So we will put up some of the races from last night soon. Others are there already from past couple weeks.

Here's a short clip of the night racing: https://youtu.be/KY89cm09Ffs

Another great test and tune and fun racing night last night. Bau once again hit his 1000 laps and with this super fast track got an awesome 4.3 seconds fast lap. Soon after others were doing fast laps in the low 4s as well. And it took some time but I broke the four second barrier finally. Bau is getting super consistent. Even though the rest of us might be a little faster his consistency is making him super competitive.

Great to have Jeff Yang back after a couple year break.

Next Monday the same track for HFAY spring series. There is a super high probability of eclipsing the elusive century mark with this track. Will it happen.... stay tuned. Ty

Only a few of us could show Monday for racing. Greg, Bau, Ken and I. We completed March Hfay then did a number of rotating team racing. It was quite fun to have two teams of two, set the clock for 6 minutes, one pair runs 3 minutes, then the remaining pair. Man we are all about the same and it was crazy to see how close we finished each race. Usually just a lap or two or even. Here's why... Bau has improved so much that not only did he get a new personal record in HFAY, but he also jumped at least 11 laps better than he ever has. And only finished 7 behind Ty who matched his personal best. The century mark still eludes us presently, but i'm super excited to see how good we did after so long being gone. Finishing positions were Ty, Bau, Greg each race (Ken is out this season). It was a close race each time, with Bau actually leading in the counter clockwise race, ahead of Ty and Greg for a bit until Ty regained composure and started hunting down Bau. :) Bau has really come a long way and will now put anyone to task to not make many mistakes. And he's doing it with his 90mm. WOW! Great going Bau.

We will be back at Ken's place this Monday, June 8th. Please do not show up before 5pm. They are still actually working. Just plan to stay away from the location entirely until 5pm.

We will have Aprils HFAY track up for racing and fun night and to get practice in for June 15th when we will actually run April HFAY.

Catch up with ya soon. Ty

We race HFAY tomorrow night. Things were really heating up in February with very few points apart at the top 4 and then in the remaining 7 are very close as well. More exciting racing to happen tomorrow for sure. Racing with Ken at Smith Speedway in Hillsboro. This location will only be shared via text, phone call, or PM by Ty Gebhardt. Only room for 12. Leave comment below that you are coming, so we plan for numbers. When: This Monday, June1, from 4pm to 9:30 or when we want. HFAY points series. This space has seen very little use since folks working from home. Bring sanitizer and Clorox wipes, and you can do a quick clean of the surfaces for your work area. But use your own discretion when you come. Guidelines: First off, if you don't feel comfortable getting together yet, we understand. We want you to come back when you do feel good about it. Second, if you have been sick in the past two weeks, or are presently, then don't come. You are not allowed to play tonight. :) Stay home and get better. Third, We will all wear masks while in attendance. Bring your own. I don't have any extras presently. I believe some guys have extras, but if you don't know if you will have a mask for the night, don't come. Work it out ahead of time. Fourth, Bring your own hand sanitizer and Clorox wipes if you want. We will all be washing our hands often and will be practicing social distancing in the pits, 6 ft apart, as well as during racing. If you are more comfortable wearing gloves, then bring them. Bring whatever makes you feel the most comfortable in a public setting.... or feel free to come another time down the road. We get it. Now the normal stuff. Bring extension cords, plan own meals, etc etc. See you there. Ty

Had a great time out last night getting some laps in. Kept our distance and our masks on. Bau has come a long way and we had our practice session open and he wanted to hit a 1000 laps. He's getting very consistant and had a fast lap of 4.624. It took him awhile and a few battery changes but he did it.

We will be racing each Monday of June. We all talked about it last night and will finish HFAY in June. The first, 3rd, and 5th will be HFAY nights. The second and 4th, will be open practice and prep nights. Feel free to join any or all. July we will go back to 1st and 3rd Mondays.

Look forward to more of you joining us soon. It only took the first hour or so to be right back where we left off.

Ok guys, time to race. (applause) Although things will be different for awhile, at least we can start coming back and getting some laps in and rubbing fenders.

Ken will be hosting the Smith Speedway in Hillsboro for the next couple months or until the church space is available again. This is a private location which means the actual location will only be shared via text, phone call, or PM by Ty Gebhardt.

You all have my cell already, so reach out to me and confirm the location. If you've been to Smith Speedway, then you know already. Because this is a private business location, we cannot nor will post it on FB. We do respect the location and do not want any issues as we borrow the space. This space has seen little use with folks working from home. We can do a quick clean of the surfaces and knobs/handles as well, but use your own discretion when you come.

When: This Monday, Memorial Day, from 4pm to 9pm. Fun night, but will be running small tracks for a bit. Probably will be the HFAY track so we can get back to that soon.

Guidelines: Things won't be normal for a bit. I respect everyone for where they are at in this whole thing. We all are coming at it from some angle and we'll work together to get through this.

First off, if you don't feel comfortable getting together yet, we understand. So don't feel like we think less of you. We don't. We want you to come back when you do feel good about it.

Second, if you have been sick in the past two weeks, or are presently, then don't come. You are not allowed to play tonight. :) Stay home and get better.

There is only space for 12 this time. Maybe more later. You will need to check in with me this time, and maybe more down the road. I do not want to over manage this, but we have to a little bit. If you are coming, leave a message below and i will let you know that you made the list. So far it's Ken and Ty.

Now the normal stuff. Bring extension cords, plan own meals, etc etc.

We look forward to seeing yall. Let's be smart and keep from germ spread. Let's get back to having fun. See you there. Ty

Finally, we are opening things up.... but slowly. We need to watch to confirm which county will get approved with the Phase in process to know if we can race at our location or look elsewhere. Applications for the counties to get approval to open things up, start today. The earliest we can reconvene is after May 15 for Phase 1 which allows groups up to 25. We will be racing soon, but with precaution. I've talked to many of you and we all feel the same way. Proceed with caution. Let's work together to keep our good thing going. We are hoping presently to have a fun night the week of May 18th. Stay tuned. Ty

WOW, what a night. As close of racing as Daytona, including the Big Ones, and Anxiety... just no injuries. Our thoughts and prayers for Ryan Newman. Another night of huge achievements and battles. There are a number of pockets that are battling against each other creating some very close racing. Race 3, C Main, Richard would take a bit of a lead and stay consistent for the win over Greg and Gene. B Main, Mo took off from the green flag, getting a good pace over Ken B and Matt C. Ken B may have hit his personal best. He is really putting the pressure on us. And newcomer to us, Matt C, jumped right in and battled the mid pack guys. A Main, Ty and Blaine battle the entire race, with Blaine getting a personal best, and Ty ending on the same lap, just .05 seconds behind pushing him. Paul would be a few laps back, allowing Mo from the B main to best him. Race 4 counter clockwise would see us all a number of laps off CW pace, but the battles were still there. C Main, Greg would take the win this time over Richard and Gene both just a few laps back. Richard and Greg battled head to head most of the races with Gene right there waiting for their demise. Gene has improved tons over a short time. B Main would pit Matt C, Ty and Ken B who all had the same laps in the qualifier, Matt just .007 seconds ahead of Ty and Ken B just .02. Ty's win set a good pace, putting pressure on the A Main guys. In the A Main, Mo, Blaine, and Paul would battle big time. Mo took off from the start and gained a nearly 2 lap lead over Paul and Blaine. But there would be Big Ones tangling all three. Because of this, all three had their share of every position throughout the race. It was anyone's race to be had. At the end, Ty's B main pace would only be bested by Blaine's A Main win... and again by only .06 seconds back in finish time. Mo and Paul were so close, but had one lap back. Incredible to have 4 guys on the same pace at the end. But it would be Blaine's night, bumping him up 3 positions in the series. Ty would hold second, Mo and Paul would drop some. Matt, Gene, and Lucas would jump positions as this was their first night. Another successful and fun, yet competitive night of racing. Can't wait for more. See you soon. Ty

Well the new HFAY season has begun and it is already showing that we will have a very exciting season ahead. Track 21 was a blast. New personal bests and even Club bests were had. We had new drivers getting in and old friends come back out. And above all that, were incredible battles all over the track. You guys, the guys racing have been improving so much that it is really fun to watch. There are pockets of very close racers battling for the next step up the ladder. And we are all getting better at passing and just overall racing. To be on or near the same lap the entire 8 minutes is just incredible. I am so excited to see more of this this season. And to see the different cars, some brushless 3500, others 70t brushed, battling head to head, with either of them having a chance at the win. Just crazy. What a night. Congrats to everyone for a great night. No laps being shared until after Feb 5th so other clubs don't see it. But we were up there, just saying. Great job guys. Ty

We had an awesome Christmas party and award ceremony last night. 18 drivers total. Tons of fun, tons of door prizes and raffles. A quick thank you to Blaine Ehrhart and Next Level timing, Ken Smith of Blue Arch Technology Services, Paul Toufar of Toufar Insurance, Greg Maffei of Grey Matter Design, and Richard Donovan, as well as Ty from Northwest Print Strategies for a number of the Raffles and door prizes. Also a huge thank you to Chris Huff for doing the accounting as well as Momo for taking pictures. Other notables are Greg Maffei for the artwork for our new shirts and plaques, and Mo from Hella Graphics for our awesome shirts. It's for sure takes a team to put the whole program together. But I especially appreciated the gift given to me by you all. With out us all we wouldn't be where we're at for sure.

While Mo was taking many of front positions in the qualifiers he broke in a semi, dropping him from the main opportunity. Ty would take the a-main winning the HFAY spec class for the night. Mo would however get vindication and win the Porsche cup main. We also have Benjamin win the c main.

Congratulations to all the racers for their achievements this past season. There were many that have hit new levels of achievement whether in lap time or quantity of laps as well as their overall for the season. We will be racing more very soon so stay tuned for a calendar.

We finished the 2019 Fall HFAY Series Monday night… and the numbers are in. Wow what a fantastic evening of racing. New personal best records were set, and a champion would emerge. We had Paul and Ken S. battling for 1st place the first couple months. Month 3, Paul took over a good lead and into the 4th, but Blaine had popped into the running. Coming into the finals last night, Paul would simply have to win one more to wrap it up. He had already won 4 out of the 10 race series. Blaine however was in contention, but would have to win both races… No pressure, right, but it was anyone’s to win. We had a full group of 5 novice drivers, with new driver Allan. It’s great to see these guys improving all the time. C Main was a mix of Lucas, Kevin, Bao, and Momo. Momo would come out ahead of the pack. Not bad for the dust he had on his car from lack of use. :) In the first B Main, we would have a battle with the new Swiss racer Richard :) , Ken S. and Greg. The groups smooth driving and focus helped them put in some big laps, creating pressure for the A Main guys. Richard would break out, with Ken next and Greg as finishing positions. Their race wouldn’t necessarily be against each other as there was good lap space between them, but it turned into the race against themselves. They all marched on at their own paces, and in the end Richard and Greg would both achieve personal best records in this race. Very cool. Congrats guys. The A Main would be Ty, Blaine, Paul. Ty hit 50 laps in the 4 minute qual. Could he hit 100 in 8 minutes and reach the infamous century club our club has been working so hard for all these years? He would lead the A Main in clockwise with a strong effort, inching towards that 100 lap pace. It was a very competitive race. By mid race, Blaine, Paul, and Ty were swapping positions on the same pace. And it was a battle all 8 minutes, all the way to the finish line where Blaine would edge Ty by 1 second, giving Blaine the first win of the night. Paul would be caught just 1 lap back. Incredible! In the second C Main, the same guys would battle. It was a close race with Kevin leading a good part of it, but Momo wouldn’t have it and snuck the win away near the finish by a couple laps. It was a great battle with all 3 as Lucas has improved a ton and battled with them to the finish, only a few laps off of their pace, and with a near personal best, missing his best by just 1 lap. Great job Lucas. Kevin has really improved as well. It was great to see him driver much smoother. In the Second B Main, it was again Richard, Ken S. and Greg. Richard would get into his fierce but calm demeanor and nearly match his new personal best. Greg with great focus as well, would actually better his new personal best by 1 more lap. Remember, this is in reverse direction from the prior race, in counter clockwise which is difficult. This group is putting a lot of pressure on the A Main guys. Way to go Greg, with two personal bests in one night. We are watching you. The A Main would pit Ty, Blaine, and Paul once again. It was a similar battle a good part of the way but Ty would falter a few times dropping back a few laps by mid race, leaving it to Blaine and Paul to duke it out to the finish, and for the championship. The real battle was between these two, so he stayed out of the way as much as possible to let the dog fight finish between these contenders. The winner would take the checker and the trophy. And it was a battle to the finish line….. Blaine would edge Paul by just one lap. The new leader for the season emerged, just as we finished, taking the overall by 1 point over Paul. Impressive racing guys. HFAY is a great format. When you have groups of guys close together it creates incredible outcomes. It can truly be anyone’s championship. And even for yourself to beat your own personal records hitting your own championship. It was another great season. I can’t wait to see how we landed on the national level. Those figures should be out about Dec 5. Another great season starts in January. Until then, we’ll have a number of bigger tracks on race nights. See you soon, Ty

Couple things real quick. Below are the current local HFAY standings. Still anyone's chance to take the #1 plate. Close battles through the season as usual. Makes this series very fun. Racing this coming Monday, October 21, rounds 7 and 8. Also, here is a video update of a Kyosho contest some of you may recall, where they asked for input on a new body to represent their 20th year anniversary. Check it out. What is your guess for the Anniversary Auto Scale body? You can get your answer in the first couple minutes, and watch the hole thing to learn about the process if you want. https://youtu.be/Ujyb81infoU

We had a great time last night trying out our new space. We have been renting a 20x50' room at a church. We have built up a good relationship with the folks at the church and always take care of our space . This other space came available and they offered it to us at the same very inexpensive rent. It is such a blessing. So we decided to spread our wings a little bit and made a 20 tile by 13 tile track. And yes it did take us about an hour and a half to set up and then a good half hour or so to tear down. But it was a good flowing track and fun. We had 13 people there with three of our regulars not able to make it. Great group of folks from all ages. Fun times with mini z.

What a great night of racing. Our first night of the Fall HFAY Season and things really are heating up. In the first race, Ken S. pretty much took it from the beginning racing Paul and Ty, and created a club best quantity of laps. Way to go Ken. But also congrats to Paul and Ty for new personal bests.

And in the second race it was a battle between Paul, Blaine, and Ty, each having the opportunity leading laps, but Paul would come from behind for the W.

Great racing tonight guys. Fun times. See you all on July 29th, the 5th Monday of the month, for big track racing. Ty

Great practice session last night getting ready for our run in a couple weeks for the kickoff to Fall HFAY. This is a fun map to see where our competitors are located. Looks like mostly the same groups as last time. Not sure if the Solar or Drone clubs are actually running mini z or if they are just using the software. Probably the latter. Thanks again Blaine for a great communities page. Looking forward to another great season. It's going to be another close battle in Portland as you are all getting so good. Fun times.

Just back from our Disneyland trip. On the way from LAX I saw a number of Porsches on a road course just off the highway. It was the Porsche Driving Experience. So we stopped in and did a little tour. This is the place you can test out cars before you buy them or just learn how to drive them better. Or if you have a vintage or other race worthy Porsche you can also have them do upgrades and maintenance to get your car race ready. Check out the nice shop behind the orange and white race car. Pretty impressive place and not too terribly priced if you wanted to go for a fun experience.

What a fantastic night of racing we had last night. The finals of the Spring HFAY Series wouldn't let us down. We had new records, best placements, fast laps, and good times... oh and free tacos too ( Thanks Greater Portland Bible Church). Race 9 would set the tone for the night and it did for sure. Greg placed a strong 4th splitting Paul and Richard. Paul came out kicking and wanted to anchor his 3rd place, breaking up the tie with Richard. And Ken S would struggle a bit, mostly to stay out of the way of Blaine and Ty who battled to the end, ending 1 lap apart and Ty taking the win and personal best high lap count. This win would put Blaine and Ty tied for the season. Now both having 3 wins in the season, neither could rely on this to be a tie breaker. Race 10 would decide it. Ty remembered very well last season losing by just 1 second and 1 lap. That 1 lap allowed 2 others to best him cutting his points opportunity and placing Blaine 1st overall for the Fall 2018 HFAY Series. Blaine wouldn't fair as well in the second quals tonight, dropping to B Main with Paul and Greg. Ken B has been improving on a fast pace lately, and beat Blaine in the quals by .01 second. This put Ken B in the A Main for his first time. Way to go Ken B. Paul, Greg, and Blaine all had their Audi R8's on the track. It was a great image and battle. Paul put on the biggest charge and came out 3 laps ahead at the finish... and also putting a challenge to the guys in the A main. It was Ty and the Ken's (Ken S and Ken B) in the A Main. We still didn't know where Blaine and Ty would end up for the seasons overall points. Paul anchored his 3rd position with a great performance in the B, pushing Richard to 4th. Ken S already anchored 5th, but now he's in the A main again, and he pulled out a win last time, so what would another high points race of Ken's do to the points overall. Having seen what Paul and Blaine just completed in laps in the B main, this gave the A Main racers an advantage and a target to shoot for. The race was awesome. Ken B. raced his strongest ever, hitting a personal best high laps. Way to go Ken B, first time in the A Main, and personal best laps ever. You are really putting the pressure on in a good way to the rest of the club. That's what makes it great. Ty and Ken S battled the entire race, swapping 1st and 2nd positions a number of times. Ken S was having to drive a bit careful as to not traction roll at the end of the straight. Ty was doing this a bit as well but not as often. Ken S was out front by nearly 2 laps at one point. Ty battle back and the last minute or so were on the same lap. At one point Ken S was feeling the pressure from Ty and Ty was putting all he had out there too, they both traction rolled together at the end of the straight. Ken S lands on his wheels, and thankfully to a quick handed Richard, Ty was back on his wheels without too much loss. 10 seconds left and the battle was bumper to bumper. Ken S had the right line and wouldn't budge from it and would pull the W by .005 seconds. 8:0451 to Ty's 8:0497. Ken S for the win. And with that, the season was over. Ty had beat Blaine's laps from the B Main, and that was all that was needed to dethrone the 4 time champ. It's been 5 HFAY seasons of 2nd place for Ty. This was a hard fought battle. I remember the seasons well, and appreciate all the guys who've battled and grown and made this such a great event. Just a super time all around this whole season. There is such close racing among the top 8 guys. We had 5 guys place first out of the 10 races. And 8 guys battled for 4th or better. That is some close racing. Racing tomorrow night, Monday, May 6th, HFAY Spring Series final night. There are some super close battles: Blaine leads Ty by 1 point for first. Richard has snuck in for a 3rd place tie with Paul T. Ken S has pretty much locked in 5th, but Kevin O pulled a 3rd and 4th last time, while Ken had a 1st and 5th. Greg is just two up on Ken B. and Bau is 6 points over Lucas. Who will it be. Will Blaine become the #2 man after 3 seasons... only if Ty can keep the nerves in check and battle on into the 8th minute? It's Blaine's to lose. Can Paul come back after some difficulties, or will smooth Richard take it? Can either Ken S or Kevin get back on the podium? Will upcoming Ken B continue his stretch or can Greg hold him off. Will Bau or Lucas reign over novice? I'm sure if history shows, it will be anyone's night to win or lose. It may very well come down to the last race, the last laps, and the last seconds. This is what makes the HFAY series so great. It's going to be a great night. Remember, it's a tight schedule as usual, so come prepared to get racing by 6:30.

Plan own meals, bring power strips and cords, $4 per person.

Great night of racing for mostly everyone. :) Quite a bit of shakin up happened for our local series. Ken B struggled the first main, but excelled the second. Bao really getting better all the time after only a couple months racing. Lucas and Chris were putting in some nice smooth laps after being out a bit. Greg and Blaine tangled and both fell out mid way through the first main, but Greg comes back in the second Main with his first jump into the A Main, possibly ever, or for quite some time, ending 4th for the night, that is huge, nice goin. Paul struggled a bit, switchin out different cars. Ken S was dialed in the first main, taking the win with laps to spare. And then battled strong against Kevin O in the second main, both ending on the same lap. Kevin has come up a ton and got a 3rd overall for the second main, possibly highest yet, that's cool. But they were still a few behind Richard in that race. Richard qualified into the C main, in Main 1, but with his calm and consistent driving, claimed 3rd overall in the first main. He then qualified into the B Main for Main #2, and proceeded to pull an overall win, beating Ty by 1 second... and we weren't even in the same race. :) Plus Richard had the fast lap during practice of 4.671 beating Ty 4.676. Nice Job Richard. You have a target on your back now. :)
The group is real close and there was some tight racing last night. Fun times.

Here are the overalls from March and April. There were some position changes last night for sure... and Blaine has used up his drops.... :) This is what makes the series fun and is leading into a great finale next month. See ya all soon. Ty

Well, although a little rough night with some tech difficulties and me having to crack the whip to get us through the night (sorry guys), there were some great successes. I can't say how many laps Paul had in the A Main race because it's HFAY rules, but he won with one of his best performances ever. I can see Paul, Blaine, and Ken as serious contenders to the century club soon (me too. :) ) And others are coming. A couple other shout outs were for the most improved Kevin O. WOW, is all i can say. He's been putting in the time on their track and it shows. I think it was easily a 10 lap improvement over his best ever. Welcome to the 80's lap club Kevin (A main is waiting for you). Other stand outs were Greg, drove that Porsche nice and smooth both mains. And Richard is always Mr Smooth driving as he led Momo and Kevin through a tight race, all 3 battling, but Richard edged out the others by only a couple laps, and left Momo and Kevin to finish in the same lap, WOW. Great fun.

February HFAY times are posted and very impressive. Great to see so many folks turning out. 45 entries for Clockwise. Awesome to see so many in the century club. 100 laps + is very difficult. There are a lot of things that have to go right to get there. Congratulations to everyone. Great turnout, and great results.

We'll be updating the Community Standings section somehow to show based on entries and points. Just for fun... right. :)

Race update. After chatting with a few of the guys, and checking the weather, it appears we won't have any real snow today, nor freezing weather until closer to between 9 and 10pm.

So, yes, we are going to race tonight. We are doing our February HFAY track. Starting races at 6pm sharp so we can get done with as much as possible. Weather dependent, we will chunk through the evening. If we get through part of the night and want to call it, then we will.

Choose for your own comfort whether tonight makes sense or not. There are 2 drops in the series, so if it doesn't work tonight, you can use those drops, or, depending on how it goes tonight, we may have a make up day later. TBD.

One Lap!

One fantastic, or rotten lap... depending on the side of the lap you are on.

After 5 months, over 6000 total laps, 80 minutes of racing in 10 different races (8 minutes each), countless practice laps, big track races, car repairs, and 10 different racers... one lap.

These finals would pit the best against the best of PDX Mini Z to finish the season. We have a number of great racers, and many coming up in the ranks as well. This night, 4 racers are in the ring.

Blaine started the evening with a 1 point season lead over Ty for first. The next battle was for third where Paul was 3 points up over Ken. Race 9 of the series would mix this all up. Ken winning with his PR of 92 laps, putting him just 1 behind Paul, and Ty finishing 2nd, bumps him past Blaine, who had some technical difficulties and dropped to 4th.

Anticipation grows with the thumping on phone calculators, crunching numbers to see the new standings. Now Ty leads Blaine by 1 for the overall, and Paul losing ground on Ken leading only by 1 point now for third.

For the final, we pit 1 and 2 in one race and 3 and 4 in the other, each having a 3rd racer not in either of these battles to keep it fair. Head to head, controller to controller, bumper to bumper, will against will.

One Lap!

While we knew Blaine has the capability of throwing down some serious laps, he had a furious 97 lap pace in race 9 before his technical difficulties dropped him to only finish 84. Such is racing, but this was also his personal best pace and overall best pace for the club ever. None of us have come that close to 100 laps... (our next goal). We have worked hard to get up to and cresting the 90's for the past couple years striving for the 110 laps the best racers complete in 8 minutes with their modified cars. So to hit the 90's is HUGE with our near stock cars. Driver ability and working together on the track, is a very large effort in our club and we are all getting better all the time.

Blaine would take the A main over Ty, 91 laps to 88. That would seem to lock it in for Blaine. But that actually put us at even overall (based on two worst drops), leaving it up to the tie breaker. How will the next race impact things.

Paul and Ken battle from the start. Ken jumps out to a lead that would presume to be hard to catch by Paul, but a few bobbles by Ken and a consistent effort by Paul, on one of his best nights, he would catch up and pass Ken. The last 3 or so minutes on the same lap, lap after lap, they kept their nerves in check and ended seconds apart, Ken getting caught at the line with 88 laps, and Paul taking the win with 89 laps.

Paul's 89 laps, and Kens 88 with an 8:00.082 (8 minutes 0 seconds) beat Ty's 88 with an 8:01.175 (8 minutes 1 second), and that's the ONE LAP difference that settles the season.

Blaine still would have won the tie breaker with more wins over Ty (5 to 3). And I wouldn’t have it any other way.
And this is why every lap counts and you never give up no matter what happens during the race. Hitting the corners, other cars, losing bodies, parts, wheels, forgetting battery clips, having break downs technically or mentally, you've got to know that one lap... no, EVERY lap counts.

With huge fireworks and fanfare, we congratulate Blaine the overall winner for 2018 Fall HFAY Season! Great Job!

Special thanks to Richard, Justin and Chris H, for bearing with us during our finale. Justin came from Eugene. Quite a commitment.

The next adventures of HFAY will begin in January. Before then, we’ll have our Christmas party and awards ceremony on December 3rd. This is open to all as we’ll have a party with a large track and food and prizes.

For HFAY results, view our website www.pdxminiz.com on the top menu bar.

Until the next race…, Ty

Racing tomorrow, Oct 1, Greater Portland Bible Church, 2374 SW Vermont. Big track time. See a video in the prior post below. I saw Mini Z Rio run this track a couple weeks back and it just barely fits our space, so thought we'd do it and have some friendly competition across the water. I've got their best times and laps, so let's do this. :) Doors open at 4, racing til 9:30. Bring your own meal, and power strip as plugs are limited. $4 / person space fee. See you there, Ty

Ok, well, I don't brag on myself much, but I BEAT BLAINE. Muhahaha. Fun night. Everyone is doing great and getting better all the time. We ran a number of 3 and 4 minute races. Paul got a couple wins, Blaine, and me too. Paul and Kevin left before 9pm, so we did a 12 minute race after that with just 4 of us. It was head to head Blaine and I most of the race, swapping leads a few times... but i lead the important lap. :) Oh, and i had fast lap for the night too. :) Ty 7.437, Blaine 7.533, Paul was close to breaking 8 all night, but missed it with a best of 8.1, Greg had an 8.068, and i think Kevin was in upper 8 or low 9's, as well as Lucas. Greg, Lucas and Kevin are all driving so well, it is getting harder to pass them. :) Great fun. Round 3 (races 5 and 6) HFAY, next Monday, Sept 17. Greg is claiming the 4th place for the overall this season.... we all at the top 4 better watch out... he's coming for us. :) See you there, Ty

And we race, this Friday, Friday the 13th, racing HFAY track number 13....oooooo. Double negative, is that a positive? :) Yes, positively fun. :)

This is just a one off Friday night that we might do a time or so this summer. We will have the HFAY track set up, the one we will be racing on Monday for times. This will be a good time to get your car set up and ready for the season.

Location: 939 SE Alder St, Portland, OR 97214

Time: From 5:30pm, till your eyes cross, or Greg kicks us out. :)

What needed: There are some chairs and tables in a couple nearby rooms. We will be setting up the track in the garage space outside the rooms. You are more than welcome to bring tables and chairs, and for sure your power cords, and set up in the garage by the track. Be mindful, wear comfortable clothing and shoes, it's going to be a hot day, a big garage space, with cement flooring. Grab yourself a standing pad as well.

Food, plan your own, but i'm sure things will be ordered in throughout the night.

Parking: There is a parking lot entrance on the upper side of the building on 10th. The lot will be clearing after 5 when local businesses close for the weekend. So if there isn't any when you arrive, park on the street and you can move it into the lot later.

Will be fun. Hope you can make it. Ty

Super night of racing. Lots of close battles. Finishing positions won or lost by half a second in some cases. Some car difficulties as well unfortunately, (Chad, Mat). Blaine passes Ty for the win with a few laps left in A Main Clockwise (actually Ty choked. :) ) And way to go Paul with a big win in A Main Counterclockwise by 3 laps. Way to go Lucas pulling off his first heat win. Great to have new guys Chad Blanton and Ken B. Going to be a great series. Anyone's series as we get 2 drops. We'll get the national times posted for January, early February. Next racing: Monday Feb 5, and then Monday Feb 19 next HFAY. See you soon, Ty

Ok guys, time to pick our tracks for this springs HFAY series. View the website below and tell me your 5 top picks. I'm only leaving this on until tomorrow night to get things moving.

Go to "Time Trials" and choose 5. Post your replies below.
Some of the higher numbered tracks are 1 or 2 tiles too wide or tall for two identical tracks in our present space. So we just make the practice track a little smaller to fit.

You can also check out what we've done in the recent past under the "Racer Series" tab.

We've got some new blood coming into the club and we are all excited for this new season.

With special thanks to Brian Stanley and his web site, we hope to help keep this great activity going and growing. Thanks Brian.

Super night of HFAY finales. With Ken sitting in 4th coming in for the night, he put the hammer down and grabs the last step on the podium after going 1, 2. Blaine already had 1st wrapped up for the season but had to stick one more fork in it with the last race win. Ty had to get 4th or better in both heats to anchor 2nd, completes it with a 2, 3. Paul comes up short having traction roll issues (and maybe other car influence issues... :) ).

Check out how close one of our races was... after 8 grueling minutes, and testing our nerves, 3 on the same lap and 2 were literally bumper to bumper at the finish.

Great turn out, great racing and fun. Good to see MoMo Chris, Andrew, Kevin, and Scott out again. And way to go Greg, nearly giong into cardiac arrest, he stays in front of Ty for the win on the group 50/50 race. Nice driving.

Dec 4th will be a larger open track (practice session some say :) ) and Dec 18th will be our party and awards ceremony. See you back soon. Ty

Race day today, Monday, October 16th. We'll be running round 4 of HFAY on one track and will have a second one set up for practice, and will combine them if we have time.

Remember to bring an extension cord or at least a power strip.

Space info below:
We will be at Greater Portland Bible Church, located just 10 minutes from downtown Portland. The address is 2374 SW Vermont St, Portland, OR 97219.
The picture shows 2040 SW Vermont, but that is the apartment complex. You still enter here as you have to go through the complex to get to the church. Go down the hill, and continue straight and you will see the yellow gates. Enter there and continue a long loop to the right.
No need for chairs or tables as they are provided. But bring and extension cord and power strip as we will need some of these.
See map for entry, loading, and parking. We are allowed to park near the entrance, sidewalk side only. The other side is handicap or fire lane.
The doors should be unlocked, but if not, we’ll have a phone number to call on the door.
We have the space from 4pm to 9:45, and have to be off property at 10pm, closing the entry gates behind us. So the earlier we show up the quicker we get set up and racing.
We can order food from local venues, even our buddies over at Roundtable deliver here. Or you can bring your own items. There is a kitchen next to our room, which we can use, with full cooking area, probably bring own utensils. Our room does has running water and counter space.

October Update: We are adding a night of racing. So our calendar is as follows; Mondays, October 16th and now 30th also. Then we'll roll right into November, Monday the 6th and 20th.

While i'm at it, we had a great time last Monday night. We enjoyed having our regulars, not so regulars, visitors, and newcomers alike. Totaled 10 racers with many missing.

Great to have D.O. back for a visit, newcomer Matt, and visitor Glen who says he'll be back.

We tried a couple fun activities. Since it was a really fast track, we raced for fast laps with some Jamba Juice bucks on the line. We broke the groups into 3 similar speed classes, then battled for one minute individually for one fast lap. Really interesting to see the pressure for one simple fast lap. Fast and competitive and fun.

Then we had the newest racers draw names from the quicker classes, one from B group, and one from A group, and teamed them up for a relay race. Three teams with equal abilities... and pressure, where again each driver would drive for a minute, this time to gain as many laps as possible, and the team total would be the total to beat. Amazing how close all three groups were, with similar abilities, we ended up within seconds from each other overall. Mo, Ken, and Greg were the new A team. :)

See in you soon, Ty

Hey Guys, We have had a ton of fun the last couple months with huge tracks at PDX Sports Center, but we are going to try out a new location in the month of August. We will be at Greater Portland Bible Church, located just 10 minutes from downtown Portland. The address is 2374 SW Vermont St, Portland, OR 97219.
We have a room that is about 20 x 60, so there will be plenty of room for both big and small tracks. Plus it has AC. 
August Schedule:
Monday August 7, regular fun club night.
Monday August 21, HFAY round 2, and hopefully will have 2 tracks up, one for practice / fun and the other to run the actual races on.
We want to thank PDX Sports Center for the opportunity to have used their facility the last couple months and we hope we can come back when we have a larger group.
See you next Monday.

Keeping with our Portland theme (last time was PDX), this time we will run a 503 pattern. Should be fast and fun. And have a joker lap as well (Yoker lap as they say in Sweden. Sorry, been watching too much World RX :) ).

Tomorrow, Monday July 24th, we are back at the big house of PDX Sports Center, 8785 SW Beaverton Hillsdale Hwy. Portland, OR 97225, (503) 297-4145

We have the space from 5pm to 11pm. Set up begins right at 5 and racing as soon as we are set up. It was great last time as we had up to 8 cars on the track at once.

They have some tables and chairs, but if you have a small fold up table or chair, bring it, as well as an extension cord or two.

PDX Sports Center is just 15 minutes west of Downtown PDX, and only 30 minutes from most other areas… besides traffic.

See you soon, Ty

Hey Everyone,

We are back racing tomorrow night, July 10th at Roundtable Pizza Barbur. We will be starting our Fall HFAY Points Series. This is the first of the 5 month series. Set up is at 5pm and racing as soon as possible after that usually around 6pm. Sooner the better. We are done and out the door at 10pm.

The normal HFAY website has been having problems, so we can follow the series here at this site below, as well as see the tracks for the series. We are running the tracks for HFAY Season 24. Starts with one of our all time favorites, track 16.

http://mini-zracer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=41030

Then Monday, July 24th, PDX Mini Z is back at the large arena, PDX Sports Center, for more huge track action. Stay tuned for info.

And if you want to see some really big track action, check out our friends over at Rose City Scale Racing, hosting the 2017 Sven Boehringer Family Reunion Race next weekend for some 10th and 8th scale action both electric and nitro. They will have well over 100 racers coming from different parts of the country and possibly internationally and will be a huge event. Action starts Friday with Mains on Sunday, July 16th.

Here's video from a couple years ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gDimDZ-SPWg

I myself will be heading over to check out the racing for sure, but also to see this guy in person. Scotty Ernst, world renowned race director, will be calling the races. SO COOL.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1q4D1wDss68&list=PLqres4ohvIscTxIf3UIQIY0n2zGvuBfnb

Looks like an action packed July. See you all tomorrow night for our first round of HFAY.

It’s almost here. Our biggest track ever. Next Monday night, June 19th, our big event.

We will be at PDX Sports Center, 8785 SW Beaverton Hillsdale Hwy. Portland, OR 97225, (503) 297-4145

We have the space from 5pm to 11pm. Set up begins right at 5 and racing as soon as we are set up. They have some tables and chairs, but if you have a small fold up table or chair, bring it, as well as an extension cord or two. This is a new venue for us, so I’m sure we will learn a thing or two our first time.

PDX Sports Center is just 15 minutes west of Downtown PDX, and only 30 minutes from most other areas… besides traffic.

For a tour, click here: http://pdxsportscenter.com/facility-tour/ We will have the turf field in the first column, second row of pictures.

The space is 30 x 80… which is huge. And to kick off the summer, we’ll do a large PDX. Check the track below.

They do have limited food items there. They would prefer we order meals from them, but we can order delivery.

One club car is available for use, as well as one new in box car available for purchase.

See you next week. Ty

This is a better setting than our HFAY nights for your first visit as the HFAY schedule is pretty rigid those nights. Hope to see you then. Set up at 5:30, racing soon after.

Super racing last night. Notables. Bob stole the night with wins in all 4 mains (2 stock, 2 mod), but only by 1 or 2 laps in stock, a few more in mod. Ty took 2nd in the 2 stock mains, beating Paul by .7 seconds and .6 faster than Blaine. Great to see Paul back after some time away, and he's still fast. We were missing Mo with his new work location build. Great job everybody. Close racing all the way around made for great fun. Local points scoring will be posted soon.

Here's the track, http://www.howfastareyou.com/events/index/280 but tomorrow it's with a twist. We are bringing back the bridge. It will be placed on the straight stretch a couple different locations providing for some technical driving. Great night of racing last night. Bob finishing off the HFAY series as the overall winner of our local series and placing high in the national points. Paul coming off the bench from a break, struggled with car setup in the beginning then comes back for 2, 1, 2 late in the evening. Blaine doing his normal fastest laps half way through the night, and then pulling off a win and fastest laps of the night with the stock cars at 9:20 pm. Who gets more power and gets faster through the night anyways? :) (only Blaine) Ty struggled in one of the races with a tire coming off the rim... All makes for a super fun night.
National / International points standings up through the end of October. Bob 10th, Ty 13th, Blaine 14th, Paul 22nd, and Ken 24th (Paul and Ken missed some). Kevin O, Chad and Scott further down. This is a cool series. Pdx, Salt LC, WaDC, and Melbourne AU. We will be doing the Spring series starting in January.

Great racing last night completing round two of the HFAY series. Bob takes home the leader plate with two wins, leading the series with 3 wins over Ty with one. Great to have Paul back, getting a 2nd in his first race back. And Ken and Kevin O, battling it out throughout the night. Blaine had some technical issues in race one but regrouped the second race for a strong finish. Thanks also to Blaine for setting up and running the new software, it works great.

Great time racing HFAY series Monday night. WOW, 8 minutes is a killer. But we all did awesome and had incredible passing action and clean racing. We did a warm up and race, 8 minutes each, both clockwise, then warm up and race, 8 minutes counterclockwise. Not putting times up for warm ups. Here are race times:

Clockwise 8 minutes: Times to follow the national website posting soon after first of next month.
1st, Ty,
2nd, Bob,
3rd, Blaine,
4th, Ken,

Counterclockwise 8 minutes:
1st, Bob,
2nd, Ty,
3rd, Blaine,
4th, Ken,

Points after race #1:
Bob 199 points (race #1 99pts, race#2 100pts)
Ty 199 points (race #1, 100pts, race #2, 99 pts)
Blaine, 196 points (98pts race #1 and #2)
Ken, 194 points (97pts race #1 and #2)
Bob and Ty split and both are present leaders (nice photo bomb Blaine)

And we'd like to welcome Kevin, friend of Ken's, hope you come back again.

Hey everybody,

July racing is here and we will be joining the national How Fast Are You (HFAY) point series for the next few months. We will still be racing twice per month, but one week we will be using as a fun / practice session and the next time will be the actual race.

This is a 5 month series (July – Nov), with 10 races (5 tracks, run once clockwise, then again counter clockwise). We will do both forwards and reverse the same night. So it means if you can only make it once per month, come out on points night. The series allows for 2 drops, so miss one night during the 5 nights, that’s your two drops.

In keeping with tradition for rc racing series’, we will have finalist plaques at the end of the series for just our PDX Mini Z club (1st – last). And we will have a Red Leader plaque that will get transferred to the leader for the next month. With points being 1 point apart per race, it’s anyone’s game. Basically, it’s a local point’s series for plaques, within a national point’s series for bragging rights.

This month we are meeting on Mondays, July 11th and July 25th. Both times will be at the Roundtable Pizza on Barbur Blvd. 10070 SW Barbur Blvd, Portland, OR 97219, Phone: (503) 245-2211

We only have until 9:30 each night, so get there as early as possible, help set track up, order pizza, and we can get rollin. I’m usually there by 5:30.

Oh, did i say there was no charge to enter the series or race during practice nights? ...except for your dinner at Roundtable.

See you there, Ty

PDX Mini Z is tops in the country.... presently. :) We are working on the old time trials list at www.howfastareyou.com. Bob is numero uno. Congrats Bob. Ty 7th, Blaine 10th, and Ken coming off a year break got on the board beating out Dangerous Dave. Good job guys.

Ya ya, i know, those time trials were clocked a couple years ago and we are using the next gen faster cars... but hey, at least for the moment, PDX Mini Z is rockin the #1 plate. Check it out here: https://www.howfastareyou.com/events/index/10 Woot woot.

Come join us July 11th. We will either be doing more time trials or possibly be jumping in to the 5 month HFAY racing series to see how good we really are. :)

Stay tuned for location updates.

If you missed out on the last rounds joker lane track don't miss November 24th's loop lap track. As always we will tweak the layout some as needed but we should have all the pieces for this layout. The idea is to run around the "loop" and down the front straight. Also this layout will be run counter clockwise. ;) (which is backwards from out normal direction.)

Last night will go down as one of those amazing nights in racing history. The legend of the loop lap was born. Racing took a brand new turn where at any point, the leader or anyone else might be called upon to do a bonus loop of a certain area of the track. Keeping racing close is the name of the game and fun too. We also had timeouts for just about anything if you were the leader. Most of all the timeouts were because Kevin wanted Mo to have to do it. Anyway, fun hanging out again, and trying to bring the fun and goofiness back to this fun little hobby. Hope to make more soon!

Race day is coming! Only 10 days away and we need a track layout to look forward to. What would we like to see this week. Easy flowing? Technical? The death diamond might have been a little much for some on the newer drivers, but the Bermuda triangle seem to be a good compromise. We have lots of newer racers still so I was leaning more towards a easy flowing track to keep it fun for people working on improving. Post your thoughts....

Monday is RACE DAY! It might be the best day of your whole week so don't miss out if you can. I found a on-line program that can be used to design tracks with the pieces we have. I think we will move forward with designing the layout before hand so we everyone that is helping set up knows just what we are building. The program will also tell me what and how many pieces to bring which should help with transporting and moving parts we don't use. The quicker we can get set up the more drive time we get. See everyone tomorrow!

It was nice to have a person just show up with a car in the box, and we just waited to start racing until they got set up. Best part was he was brand new, and just learning to drive and not one person complained. It's nice to see that kind of spirit at a track again. Thanks everyone, let's keep it rolling. Good group of guys

Ok everyone. Let's get this thing going for monday! I bought some anti static spray as that is what Kyosho thinks is causing the glitching. I will try and bring some dryer sheets too, but if anyone else thinks about it bring some.

First meeting is Monday the 13th at 7pm at my studio Left Turn Studio 1001 SE water ave suite 190, Portland 97214.

We are hoping the track will be there by then and we will have a couple cars.

If you want to be part of the group order for a car, please bring cash or credit/debit card, or paypal. The cost will be $140 if you are paying by CC or debit please add 3.50 for my CC fees. I can process cards and pay tammies, just don't want to pay the CC fee myself.

If you want to order on your own, we can do that too. Just make sure it's one of the RTR version to start with. We will have an open class if everyone wants to add one.

My studio number is 503.236.6631 if you get lost. At 7 pm you can park in any of the spots in the parking lot, don't worry if it has a name on it.
